A Little Conversationalist
Saturday morning, Adelyn decided she needed to tell me another happy story. So we talked and she smiled - another long and very sweet conversation with my daughter.
This morning during church, Adelyn woke up during the sermon. She was making a few fussy sounds - so to quiet her, I decided to hold her and give her the pacifier. But really, I discovered she just wanted to talk. and smile. and talk. OH NO, I thought "put the pacifier in more... this is not the time to talk!" It wasn't going to stop. As James realized what was happening, he offered to take her. A few minutes later, Adelyn was back asleep... resting in her Daddy's arms.
Watch out world - our little girls are happy talkers! :)

Thoughts on Life with Twins
Team work is huge in our family! James and I have really grown in oneness these past few months. Our need for each other is great. Our need for God is even greater.
It really takes the two of us to fully give these girls what they need. Yes, I'm here all day every day with the girls. but James comes home from a full day of work, only to join me in the work that is happening here. He helps me with dinner, cleaning, bath time, bed time, changing diapers, burping girls... even at the 4am feeding. I thank God for him! for he continuously loves and serves our family!
Life has really changed since becoming a Mom of multiples. Here's a glimpse into my world --
I go to bed as early as I can. James and I have lights out not too long after the girls go to bed at 8pm... only to arise in the early morning hours to start the day.
I am so thankful for any time during the day to get things done. With two, you never know who will wake up, cry or need her pacifier (because sleeping is not always at the same time!). I'm thankful when I can get my teeth brushed before lunch! or even a shower! yet alone getting things done around the house.
I am thankful for trips to the grocery store. It's time alone and a chance to get out of the house - even though the girls are in the back of my mind and I'm continuously hoping they are doing OK.
I can sure get things done quicker than I ever could before knowing that my time is limited... I'm a SPEED racer! Everything is done quicker - I eat faster, I shower faster, I clean the house faster.
and I am continuously thankful for my mom and my mother-in-law. They are such a huge help!
No I wouldn't change my life right now. I LOVE my girls. Even in the busyness of long days, I wouldn't trade a single moment of getting to watch them grow. They are really GREAT babies! and a joy to have in our lives!
Two Months with Kristen and Adelyn
All About Kristen:
- she loves to talk! talk! and talk! One day, I was telling her she is a social butterfly and of the fun girlie social events to come as she grows older. As I was telling her of tea parties and sleepovers, she squealed with excitement! She loves to tell stories. happy stories. smiling all the while she talks.
- she loves to smile. :)
- she is laid back - changes don't seem to bother her.
- she LOVES bath time. kicking and splashing! this girl is going to be a fish in the water!
- she has wild crazy hair! it's actually the main distinguishing factor between the 2 girls.
- at her check-up, she weighed 9lbs, 11oz and 21 1/2 inches long! a perfectly healthy and growing girl!
All About Adelyn:
- she loves to smile! she will smile all the time - a very happy girl! :)
- she is very alert! she loves to stand up, hold her head up and look around. I don't think she misses a thing - she wants to see everything!
- and therefore, she's not so laid back. it takes time for her to adjust to changes.
- she does not like bath time. hopefully that will change soon - we had our first non-fussy bath time just the other night...
- she enjoys"reading" books - she will listen and study the pictures when read to.
- at her check-up, she weighed 9lbs, 15oz and 22 inches long! a perfectly healthy and growing girl!

All Grins
I remember when Adelyn and Kristen used to smile in their sleep. I always wondered what they were dreaming of.... they had plenty of happy dreams because they were always smiling then too. Those were the days when they were so tiny - the days of them falling asleep in your arms.
But not until at 6 weeks did their smiles change. REAL smiles. Smiles that take up their whole face and push those little chipmunk cheeks out. Oh I love their sweet little smiles!
Their happiest time of the day is in the morning. It's my favorite time of the day. We are all in our PJ's, the morning sun is coming in through the windows, the day is new and the blessings are many. Mommy sings, the girls smile and coo. It is a sweet sight and a beautiful sound to my ears. a Mother's delight.

My 1st Mother's Day
It all started the day before.... when I was highly encouraged to leave the house and take time to myself. So I went on a little shopping spree... and came home to 3 very suspicious people - 2 little girls each with a hot pink mitten covering a black stained hand and a Hubby with dark black stains all over his hands. I was very curious (and not to mention excited!) to find out what they were up to!
The girls were 6 weeks old and we felt it was the perfect Sunday to take on the challenge of getting our family out the door for church. Getting to church was also the perfect Mother's Day gift - so refreshing to be back among our community and church family. James kindly offered to dress the girls for church. I laid out cute clothes the night before... but to my sweet surprise, James had Happy Mommy's Day shirts made for the girls to wear. Pink and tiny - they looked so sweet in them.
The girls slept the whole time during church. Knowing how much they enjoy music, I knew it would be a peaceful outing and believed they would fall asleep during worship - and they did! They were "ooh and awed" over too. The girls did great!
I wasn't expecting gifts - I thought I had already received the best gift of just enjoying the blessings of the day. But the girls spoiled me with a gift - a Willow Tree figure of twin infants. and the reason for the black stained hands? it was the girls' signatures for my Mother's Day card. I have their precious tiny hand prints at 6 weeks old.
and to make the day just a little more special... Adelyn smiled. a REAL smile. the kind of grin where your daughter looks straight at you and smiles. Oh! it was beautiful!
did Kristen smile? Yes she did! she smiled at me later that evening. Remember I have IDENTICAL daughters - they do things alike all the time. It didn't surprise me that they would BOTH smile at ME on Mother's Day! Her smile was just as beautiful too!
Oh Kristen and Adelyn, you fill my heart with love and joy! Thank you for a very special first Mother's Day!
PS. Grammy Hughes had a special Mother's Day too! She was blessed by spending time with her children and grandchildren!
